Short Film Review: Trumpet (2020)
by Kevin Haefelin
Combined with Haefelin’s sense of slapstick comedy and the texture of the city and supported by Leandro Monti’s cinematography, the film reminiscent of the works of Jim Jarmusch or Woody Allen, as well as Mao Sone’s score. “Trumpet” becomes not only a quite funny short, but also filed with a certain love for the city, its street and its people.

RIIFF Filmmaker Spotlight Series: “Trumpet” directed by Kevin Haefelin
"I’m a big fan of the NYC indie film scene from the 70’s to the early 90’s, and the filmmakers who inspired me are Scorsese with Taxi Driver and After Hours, and Jim Jarmusch’s Permanent Vacation and Night on Earth, but also, further away from New York, Down by Law and Mystery Train. I love films dealing with lonely romantic characters either escaping reality, trying to break free from a society in which they don’t seem to conform, or [who are] just night drifters discovering unexpected people or treasures through their wanderings."
